Tòa Bạch Ốc(1)





http://media.treehugger.com/assets/images/2011/10/obama-state-dinner-white-house-photo.jpgNhà Trắng hay Tòa Bạch Ốc hay Bạch Cung (tiếng Anh: White House) được xây dựng từ năm 1792 tới năm 1800, là một biệt thự được sơn màu trắng, là nơi ở chính thức và là nơi làm việc chính của Tổng thống Hoa Kỳ và được xây dựng bằng sa thạch theo kiểu tân cổ điển. Số nhà 1600 Đại lộ Pennsylvania NW tại Washington, D.C.
Thuật ngữ "Nhà Trắng" thường được dùng để chỉ chính quyền của tổng thống Hoa Kỳ đương nhiệm do đó là nơi làm việc chính của tổng thống Hoa Kỳ. James Hoben là kiến trúc sư đầu tiên của công trình, sau đó trong thời kì Jefferson nắm quyền kiến trúc sư Henry Latrobe là người chịu trách nhiệm mở rộng nó. Vào năm 2007, Nhà Trắng đứng thứ hai trong bảng danh sách Những công trình kiến trúc được yêu thích nhất tại Mỹ.

Bên trong Nhà Trắng có: 6 tầng với diện tích sàn tổng cộng là 5.100 m² (55.000 ft²), 132 phòng và 35 phòng tắm, 412 cửa ra vào, 147 cửa sổ, 28 lò sưởi, 8 cầu thang, 3 thang máy, 5 đầu bếp làm việc toàn thời gian, 1 sân quần vợt, 1 đường băng bowling, 1 rạp chiếu phim, 1 đường chạy, 1 hồ bơi. Mỗi ngày có tới 5000 lượt khách tới thăm.



Lối vào North Portico
là nơi Tổng thống và Đệ nhất Phu nhân đón tiếp các vị khách của Liên bang trước khi vào bữa tiệc chính. Lối vào phía bắc này đối diện với Đại lộ Pennsylvania, địa chỉ chính thức của Nhà Trắng nên nó cũng được coi như là lối vào chính của Nhà Trắng.
